ACT OF CONTRITION

"On the day I cried out, you answered; you strengthened my spirit." Psalm 138:3
As Catholics, we pray the Act of Contrition to tell God we are sorry.
Formal Act of Contrition
Oh my God,
I am heartily sorry for having offended You,
and I detest all my sins,
because of your just punishments,
but most of all because they offend You,
my God,
Who are all-good
and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace,
to sin no more
and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
Amen.
I am heartily sorry for having offended You,
and I detest all my sins,
because of your just punishments,
but most of all because they offend You,
my God,
Who are all-good
and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace,
to sin no more
and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
Amen.
Every penitent should know the Act of Contrition BY HEART so that they can easily say it at First Penance, but all that the Sacrament requires is to express sincere sorrow for sins, in words even as simple as, "Jesus have mercy on me, a sinner."
